Odyssey

Utilitarian mode WIP gameplay

A side-scrolling space shoot 'em up I designed. It tells the psychological drama of Odysseus throughout his long and perilous journey back to Penelope, who is waiting patiently for his return on their home planet of Ithaca.

The game uses it's gameplay and visual style to represent Odysseus' mental state as he spends years travelling aimlessly through a void littered by the remnants of war, both mechanical, human, and... something more, as time itself loses meaning while being contorted by an unseen conspiracy of gods.

Writing began back when I was about 13/14, after I first read The Odyssey for school. Development on it's current iteration began much more recently, in mid 2021, as I wanted to make a space shooter to learn Godot, but wanted to change things up rather than just follow the YouTube tutorials.

More notes coming soon.
