An Ode To Off Kilter Sites

I need to introduce you to Taxi1010.

This has been both one of my all-time favorite websites, and one of my all-time favorite works of outsider art, for about 2 years now. There's nothing else like it out there.

I think it captures a very specific type of anxious response to the basic human need of communication that greatly resonates with me. (probably the autism, I know. BUT STILL)

And it's scale is incredible. This website genuinely feels endless! Every time I go on it I end up browsing for hours, always finding tons of new shit every time. And that's even without using archive.org to access all the dead links, or reading his Twitter, LinkedIn, and Medium accounts.

Just be warned that, aside from going on incomprehensible, bigoted tangents about literally every group there is at least once, the site also makes a too-high amount of references to childhood sexual assault, often as happening to the site's creator when he was a kid, to the point it kinda worries me.

Your confusion about whether the creator is a time cube-type schizophrenic or a surrealist avant-garde artist abnormally committed to his project will only deepen as you learn more. Actually, the differences between the two are kind of destroyed by this site, I would say.

Either way, sites like this suck me in, into their internal logic, into their sheer beautiful humanity, and don't let me go until it's 3AM and sleep deprivation obliterates my ability to read.

This irrational connection of scattered tidbits, this process of desperately constructing the world around you into an epic that only makes sense to yourself, I think this is within everyone. Regardless of whether it surfaces only when you're high and half-asleep, or because you live with neurodivergence that tends toward such proclivities as this.

However, it's not often so sustained and externalized, allowed to blossom to the fringes of one's ability to control it, as with Taxi1010, Time Cube, and other such works of outsider art.

With all that being said, here's the link to Taxi1010, as well as some other fine examples of this type of website:
